Those lovely East Coast beaches are not at all natural. Nor are they stable. Recently, a Virginia landscape architecture prof and her students explored how to apply a Dutch model to American shores.

The Dutch idea is called the “Zandmotor” (sand engine), and it’s quite a bit different from the way we nourish beaches here in the U.S. Read the whole article at Landscape Architecture Magazine.
